Legend of the Galactic Heroes 3 Movies Collection Blu-ray (1988) brings together three films from the legendary space opera saga, exploring the conflict between the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes follows two brilliant commanders on opposing sides of a vast interstellar war: Reinhard von Lohengramm and Yang Wen-li.
Reinhard is an ambitious military genius determined to rise through the Galactic Empire and transform its political system. Yang is a gifted strategist whose commitment to democratic ideals frequently conflicts with the military responsibilities placed upon him.
Their contrasting personalities, political beliefs and approaches to warfare form one of the central foundations of the saga.
My Conquest Is the Sea of Stars focuses on an early encounter between Reinhard and Yang. The film introduces the strategic rivalry between the two commanders through large-scale fleet battles involving the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance.
Their decisions during battle reveal the tactical abilities and leadership styles that will later influence the course of galactic history.
Golden Wings explores Reinhard’s younger years and his close friendship with Siegfried Kircheis.
The story examines Reinhard’s determination to challenge the Imperial system while showing how his personal experiences and relationship with Kircheis influence his ambitions.
Overture to a New War revisits important events from the beginning of Legend of the Galactic Heroes while expanding the story with additional character development, political tension and military conflict.
The film provides further perspective on Reinhard, Yang and the people surrounding them as both sides prepare for another major confrontation.
Together, the three movies explore different periods of the conflict and provide additional context for important characters, relationships and historical events.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes combines military science fiction, political drama, strategy and space opera with enormous fleet battles and detailed character-driven storytelling.
The saga examines political power, democracy, authoritarianism, leadership, ambition and the responsibilities carried by those who command armies and influence nations.
War is presented not only through spectacular battles but also through its effects on soldiers, officers, politicians and civilians.
Reinhard and Yang approach these conflicts from very different perspectives, creating a rivalry based as much on ideas and leadership as on military strategy.
My Conquest Is the Sea of Stars, Golden Wings and Overture to a New War each contribute a different chapter to the wider Legend of the Galactic Heroes story.
The films expand the backgrounds of major characters while providing additional insight into the political and military events surrounding the Galactic Empire and Free Planets Alliance.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes 3 Movies Collection Blu-ray presents all three films in one collection for viewers interested in classic space opera, military science fiction, political drama and strategic warfare.
This collection provides a companion to the main Legend of the Galactic Heroes saga while expanding the stories of Reinhard von Lohengramm, Yang Wen-li and the historical conflict that shapes their galaxy.

The LotGH movies bridge the series and OVAs nicely. Clean transfer, accurate subs, and the space battle in film 2 is exceptional.

The 1988 theatrical color grade is distinct from the OVA series and EuroAnime preserved that difference. Purists will be relieved.

The films are presented in their original 1.85:1 aspect ratio, not the 1.33:1 OVA framing. EuroAnime preserved the theatrical presentation.
